zhao-opening.jpg zhao.doc art-monthly.doc an article I did for Art Monthly on an artist who exhibited in ART SPACE, Adelaide— Zhao Qui Ping –I was invited to the Opening- guests such as Lt GOV. Hieu Van Le, Festival Centre Director – Douglas Gautier, Natasha Stott Despoja etc –Maggie Fletcher ( I accidentally rang and asked for Maggie Thatcher) is the Director of ART SPACE –Wendy Ella Wright –Poet was the co-exhibitor — quite a red ribbon opening –there is another story or perhaps several stories behind the opening :)

I wrote this for ART MONTHLY as well as incorporating aspects of artists from ODE TO ART Gallery in Singapore –which I stumbled upon in a 3 hr stopover in SG ( Raffles Centre )

this mag ran into trouble in the next issue over a so called offensive ‘nude’ of a young girl which was in no way sexualised —- this was in turn a response to the ongoing Bill Henson debate — nude images —

ed_govhouse22.pdfAs one who has been to Government House on many occasions through the Australian Asian Association of SA, Victoria League for Commonwealth Friendship and the Council for International Students SA ( CISSA), I decided an article needed to be written ( Collectables Magazine)partly to counter those in the media ( REX JORY in particular) who constantly harp about how it is underused etc etc — a similar article with a different focus was also published in the Adelaide Review — This involved several interviews with Penny Stratmann, the Secretary to the Governor as well as with Anthony Hurl, Tusmore Antiques re the furnishings  and heritage of Govt House. The Governor of the time, Marjorie Jackson-Nelson AO CVO MBE also met me officially and unofficially during and after the process — and permission was given for me to take the photographs personally.
